About Us
Our Story
Timberwagon Farm was founded to fulfill a unique niche in equine care. We are fully dedicated to horse wellness and rehabilitation, and, because our facility is not a training, lesson or show facility, your horse’s specific needs are the only focus of our caring and dedicated staff. We provide high-touch, “A-show barn” care, but your horse’s care doesn’t need to compete for our attention with showing or training priorities.
Who We Are
Owner and founder, Sonja Boorman, pivoted from a high performance executive career to create Timberwagon Farm as unique space for equine rehabilitation. She brings all the attention to detail, organization and communication skills from her prior career. As a former amateur owner, she felt personally the helplessness and frustration of not being confident about the care her horse might need or be receiving in rehab. At Timberwagon Farm, she ensures your horse receives the loving attention she would want her own horse to have, while maintaining effective communication and serving as a liaison between the vet team and owner. Sonja brings her passion for equine bodywork to the care regimen, and has a variety of equine first aid and bodywork certifications.

Stable Manager Rachel Masut comes to Timberwagon Farm with a BS in animal Science from NCSU, with a focus on Equine care and management. She brings nearly a decade of equine care and management experience to bear here, including various working student and research roles. Her eye for detail and compassionate, knowledgeable care help keep the residents of Timberwagon Farm in top form while they recover.
Sara Echevarria is our primary rehab exercise rider. After competing in the “big eq” and hunters as a junior, she attended Penn State, where she was on the champion IHSA team and majored in Kinesiology. Since then, she has worked as a barn manager at several prestigious A-show barns. She brings her enthusiasm for horse care and fitness, plus an empathetic riding style that the horses all seem to appreciate, to Timberwagon Farm.
Leslie Williams is our pinch hitter, flexing from one to several days a week as the ever-changing needs of our rehab population evolve. She has been riding since she was in grade school and has always been fascinated with the horse-human relationship. On any given weekend you will find her helping with grooming, exercising or other barn jobs. In her spare time, she loves to have adventures with her sweet boy Sully.
Volunteering
At Timberwagon Farm we have a mix of intermittent and regular volunteers who help give the horses extra cuddles, grooming and grazing, as well as pitching in on farm chores. Pictured is our most regular volunteer Terry Law with Helio.
